Yes!  It’s really easy to turn canon characters into mechanisms to express the writer’s own bias.  It’s easy to lose that critical balance necessary in conveying the complexities of a living person.  And yet it’s hard to maintain that humanity – to portray them with compassion but also with a necessary understanding of their flaws - acknowledging them without excusing them.  Cullen is suspect to those extremes, and finding that middle balance is key.  <3
